UPDATE 01/01/06: If you liked reading the webcomic, please consider picking up a copy of Van Von Hunter Volume 1 and/or Van Von Hunter Volume 2. You'll be glad to know that the book series contain all new content. And while you're at it, please consider making your purchase through Amazon.com.

You see, we're part of their Associate program. For every person who clicks through our link and buys a book (or any item, actually), we get a small kickback. In the end, if you buy from Amazon.com, you get a fair deal on good merchandise, and you're helping us out too...with no extra effort, I might add. So as you can see, it's clearly a win-win situation!

UPDATE 01/01/06: We've updated our HOW YOU CAN HELP VAN VON HUNTER FAQ. Personally, I like the "Give us a sack of money with a dollar sign painted on the side" option. Okay, there's no such option. But I wish there were.

Well, it looks like Manga Studio 3 is finally on sale as a real, purchase-able product.

Just so you know, I use the program extensively in all my work. Well, technically, up to this point, I've been using Comic Studio 2.0 EX. You see, Manga Studio 3 is the localized, English version of Comic Studio 3, which was created by CELSYS. Kind of ironic is that the Japanese call it COMIC Studio, whereas the Americans call it MANGA Studio.

Well, regardless of symantics, the program has proven itself absolutely indispensible to my work. Vectorized line tools, vectorized tones, easy-as-pie lettering tools, customizable ruler tools that allow one to make crazy concentration lines, the ability to dynamically change output sizes and dpi without getting moire patterns? Yeah, this goes way beyond what Photoshop is capable of.

Don't get me wrong. I still use Photoshop for a variety of tasks. But it was never designed to handle 1-bit comic artwork. I mean, the name alone should imply what it was intended for: Photos.

Oh, and you might want to check out the Van Von Hunter Club over on Deviant Art. It looks like they’re doing a VVH fanart contest for something called Valentine’s Day. From what I’m told, it seems to occur somewhere around VVH Day, but doesn’t really have that much to do with beheadings.

It looks like this front page rant thing could take a little getting used to. From what I’ve been told, our readers just expect some pointless rambling from time to time, so I suppose that shouldn’t be too hard to do-Right?

Here’s a quick update on all things VVH: We’re still working hard, trying to juggle all three VVH versions simultaneously. The writing for the newspaper version is finally starting to come together, so we’ll soon be taking a short break from Book 3 to put those together. Because it sounded like a good idea at the time, Book 3 has more details and characters than either of the other two books. It’s taking a while to draw. (sigh) And, of course, the webcomic continues to be updated every Sunday. As it has been for years. Seriously.

Not so VVH-related: I’ve recently cashed in all of my Best Buy gift cards, and replaced my Zen USB 2 with an iPod nano. (Making sure to have an Invisible Shield ready the moment I took it out of it’s protective wrapping. Why on earth do these things scratch so easily?) So far, I’ve been pretty happy with it. (Both the iPod AND the Invisible shield) I do wish Apple would add a few more buttons, though. Sure, the controls themselves are pretty simple, but it’s a bit annoying having to hit the Menu button six or seven times consecutively in order to return to the main menu.

Okay, hopefully that was enough random stuff for this week. Now back to work. ;)
